Matsui Applauds Dedication of Depot Park Solar Project

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento), a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Co-Chair of the Congressional High-Tech Caucus, released the following statement in support of the Depot Park Solar Project, a 15 acre, 12,600 panel array expected to produce 3 megawatts of electricity, which will meet 40 percent of the energy needs of the 3 million square foot former U.S. Army Depot:

"Sacramento is rapidly becoming a Clean Tech Capitol that is leading the way in creating and manufacturing clean energy and clean technology and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. With over 200 clean technology firms already in the region, today's dedication of the solar project in Sacramento will really help set us apart.

"Redeveloping a closed military facility into an important renewable energy efficiency project is an example of how Sacramento is showcasing it creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit to diversify our regional economy."

In 2008, Sacramento was selected by the Department of Energy as one of their 25 original Solar America Cities Partnerships to develop comprehensive, city-wide approach to increasing solar energy use. This partnership with the federal government has been key to addressing barriers facing the promotion of solar technology and in educating consumers and the general public about the benefits of going solar.
