Statement

Date: April 18, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) released the following statement on the heavy storms and tornadoes that affected Western and Central Alabama:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the people killed in Friday's heavy storms and tornadoes that hit communities across Alabama. My office will assist those families in any way it can.

My thoughts are also with the many other residents whose property and homes were damaged by these storms and tornadoes. In response, I have been in touch with local officials throughout the affected counties and my staff are working with local and state officials on the ground in these communities to not only assess the extent of the damage, but also to begin the recovery and rebuilding process.

As soon as we learn the extent of the damage caused by these storms and tornadoes, my office and I stand ready to work with local, state, and federal officials to bring assistance to those affected."
