Whitfield Statement on Short-Term Continuing Resolution

Statement

Date: April 9, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Power, this evening issued the following statement following his vote on a stopgap spending measure to keep the government funded through Thursday, April 14, 2011, while averting a shutdown of government services:

"I am pleased to see that an agreement has been reached to fund our government for the remainder of the fiscal year while also making substantial cuts across all sectors of government services. Tonight, we passed a short-term stop-gap spending measure to fund the government until Thursday that will immediately cut $2 billion in spending. I will be studying the details of tonight's agreement closely and look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this long-term spending agreement for the remainder of this fiscal year."
