Inhofe, Boren to Work For Tornado Damaged Area

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK-02) today pledged their assistance to the people of Atoka County, especially the town of Tushka, as they recover and rebuild from yesterday's deadly tornado.

"Today, I will be assessing the damage left behind by yesterday's tornado," said Inhofe. "Tornado season is always difficult, especially when there is a loss of life. Our prayers are with those who have experienced loss, and I will be working with FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate, Representative Dan Boren, Governor Mary Fallin, and Oklahoma Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood to provide whatever assistance is possible."

"Oklahomans unfortunately have long been aware of the threat that severe weather poses, but the destruction and tragedy that is all too often left behind is never any easier to bear. I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in Tushka, and my heart goes out to all of the communities and families that have suffered. Andrea and I will keep the families who have lost loved ones in our prayers," Boren said. "I have personally visited the school in Tushka that has been destroyed and worked with the students in the past there to complete a traffic safety improvement project for the community. I have many personal connections at the school and I pledge to help them rebuild in any way I can."

Boren added, "Oklahoma's state and local emergency management officials are to be commended for their dedication and steady leadership during this crisis. As we move forward in our response to yesterday evening's severe weather, the Oklahoma Delegation will begin work immediately to ensure that FEMA provides Governor Fallin, OEM, and our local officials all the resources available to address the state's needs."
