Letter to John Boehner, Speaker of the House, and Harry Reid, Majority Leader of the Senate - Inviting Prime Minister Netanyahu to Address a Joint Session of Congress

Dear Speaker Boehner and Leader Reid:

This letter is intended to state the obvious need for the Prime Minister of Israel, one of our closest allies, to address a Joint Session of Congress. Though he has been here in Washington, D.C. on numerous occasions, he has not addressed a Joint Session of Congress 1996.

In our nation's history, we have invited over 100 leaders of 50 different countries to speak before Joint Sessions of Congress. In light of the ongoing chaos and unrest in Egypt and several other Middle Eastern countries, it is imperative that this Congress support our respected allies. With great certainty we must show exactly where we stand and with whom we stand. Failing to demonstrate support for Israel's sovereignty in these tumultuous times would only hasten extremist enemies to target and attack our nations friends.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. However, the image of both sides of the aisle of both Houses of Congress standing and applauding the leader of our close friend and ally, Israel, will be far more valuable than a thousand words. It will send a message to Israel's enemies that needs to be seen.

It is desperately important that we show the world the importance of our relationship with Israel by inviting Prime Minister Netanyahu to come address this body. Therefore, we, the undersigned, urge you to extend the invitation to Prime Minister Netanyahu to speak to a Joint Session of Congress as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
