Congressman Chuck Fleischmann voted for "The Path to Prosperity" budget.
"I voted for the Republican budget today because it is a responsible plan that puts our country on a fiscally sustainable path. I was elected to Congress by promising the people of Tennessee's 3rd district that I would cut federal spending, eliminate unneeded programs and finally put our financial house in order. Today's vote does just that," Fleischmann said.
"This budget cuts an unprecedented $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade, eliminates hundreds of duplicative programs and defunds ObamaCare. The budget puts us on course to balance our books while keeping taxes low so that the private sector can thrive and create the new jobs of tomorrow. In addition, it saves Medicare and Medicaid for future generations.
"This plan stands in sharp contrast to President Obama and the Democratic leadership who promise more of the same Washington spending, phony budget numbers and higher taxes. They simply do not understand that Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
"This vote is just one step, but it is an important step in the right direction. Finally, the dialogue in Washington has changed from how much can we can tax and spend to how much can we cut and save. I look forward to working with my colleagues to make this spending blueprint a reality."
