Continuing Efforts to Repeal Obamacare, Luetkemeyer Votes to Slash HHS Slush Fund

Location: Washington, DC

Continuing his efforts to repeal Obamacare, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today voted to eliminate a $17.75 billion slush fund that allows the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to administer and spend taxpayer dollars without congressional approval.

"It is unacceptable that more than $17 billion in taxpayer money is being used as an Obamacare slush fund that escapes congressional oversight and flies in the face of transparency in government," Luetkemeyer said. "This bill is another step the House is taking to reinsert Congress's oversight authority and to repeal this law. The American people continue to advocate for true health reform, but seeing the results of the liberals' law in their wallets they can recognize that what was enacted in March 2010 isn't it."

Specifically, Section 4002 would give the Secretary of Health and Human Services authority to spend funds in this account on any program or activity it chooses without further congressional action.

The proposed elimination of this unnecessary fund would save the government $17.75 billion in tax dollars over the next nine fiscal years. While American households are practicing fiscal responsibility, it is time for the government agencies representing these citizens to do the same. H.R. 1217 is essential to our efforts to reduce our national debt.
