Congressman Bob Gibbs Votes to Block EPA's Harmful Regulatory Regime

Statement

Congressman Bob Gibbs today released the following statement following House passage of H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011:

"Today, I voted for The Energy Tax Prevention Act because it protects Americans from an Environmental Protection Agency power grab that would deal a devastating blow to job creation and economic development at the worst possible time.

"I am a proud cosponsor of this legislation that prohibits the Administrator of the EPA from disregarding congressional intent and pursing a radical, anti-business agenda to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. The EPA should not be allowed to expand its regulatory reach on its own initiative, especially when Congress has refused to grant the EPA such authority.

"This bill will not change or weaken in any way the Clean Air Act's ability to protect Americans from harmful air pollution. It simply clarifies that the Clean Air Act does not grant the EPA the authority to regulate greenhouse gases to address climate change.

"As the U.S. economy struggles to get back on track, now is not the time to allow the EPA to impose what could prove to be the most costly, burdensome, and expansive set of job-destroying regulations ever crafted. Instead, we must block the EPA's runaway regulations to save countless jobs and protect our economy from the tens of billions of dollars this backdoor cap-and-trade energy tax would cost."
