U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) released the following statement today after voting in favor of H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, which would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from imposing new, costly greenhouse gas regulations.
"With the price of gas climbing closer to $4 a gallon, Americans cannot afford to have unelected bureaucrats at the EPA implement a scheme to regulate greenhouse gases and impose a new national energy tax," Coffman said. "Congress struck down cap-and-trade legislation because we knew it would cost Americans too much, but President Obama used the EPA to push the plan through anyway. This legislation removes a regulatory regime that would destroy jobs and drive up energy costs."
The measure passed the House of Representatives on a vote of 255 to 172.
