U.S. Rep. Chu (CA-32) today testified to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit and called on Congress to improve Southern California's infrastructure.

"Los Angeles is one of the most congested and polluted counties in the nation," said Chu. "Now more than ever, we need a transportation system that will create jobs. "

In her testimony, Chu highlighted L.A. County's 30/10 plan. The transportation plan seeks to build twelve transit projects connecting millions of people across the nation's largest county. L.A. County residents approved a half cent sales tax, Measure R that will allow them to build these transit projects in 30 years. This new plan will speed that up and complete them in just a decade, creating a real 21st Century transportation system.

Chu also spoke about the importance of stretching federal transportation dollars coming out of the U.S. Department of Transportation's budget by leveraging LA's local investment.

"With the federal government's help to augment this serious investment in local transportation, we can create nearly a million annual private sector jobs in just a decade," said Chu.
