Rep. Becerra Votes Against Bill That Destroys Jobs and Takes Away Worker Rights

Issues: Transportation

Today the House of Representatives voted to pass legislation (H.R. 658) that would hand out 70,000 pink slips to American workers, strip aviation workers of collective bargaining rights and would result in reduced maintenance and safety at many airports throughout the country. Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, voted against the bill and released the following statement:

"Another day, another bill that attacks working Americans. The Republican majority is missing the mark with a bill that should be about enhancing the safety of the flying public, not diminishing it. They are using this opportunity to change the rules and make it harder for aviation workers to join a union and bargain for safer working conditions. And they are slashing funds that allow airports large and small to maintain safe and secure runways and facilities--laying off 70,000 workers in the process. We should be creating jobs, strengthening the middle class, and improving--not jeopardizing--aviation safety in America."
