Capito Disappointed Senate Voted Against Ending EPA's Anti-Job Agenda: House Continues To Fight Against EPA's Regulatory Overreach

On Wednesday, the Senate failed 50-50 to reach an essential procedural vote on an amendment to permanently prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Today, the House stood firm in its commitment to end the EPA's job-killing regulatory agenda by passing H.R. 910, Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, by a vote of 255 to 172. Capito voted "yea" and also spoke in support of the measure.

"Congress has already said NO to a cap-and-trade tax, yet the EPA is intent on taking matters into their own hands. Without Congressional action to say otherwise, the EPA will continue to dismantle energy and manufacturing industries through regulation. The EPA is intent on using broadly interpreted regulatory authority under the Clean Air Act to pick winners and losers in the energy industry. This will cost jobs, especially in a coal-producing state like West Virginia, and increase the price of utilities across the board. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to reconsider and pass a bill to permanently strip the EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gases," stated Capito.
