Inhofe: Military Needs Long-Term Budget

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today made the following statement after receiving testimony from Secretary of the Army John McHugh and U.S. Gen. George W. Casey, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, on the Army's fiscal year 2012 budget:

"I continue to call on my colleagues in the Senate to pass a full long-term budget for 2011. Kicking the can down the road with short-term continuing resolutions is not the answer. Like Secretary McHugh, I agree that without a long-term budget our nation's military continues to suffer and key modernization programs like a Paladin self-propelled artillery system are endangered. The loss of these key programs would undermine our future readiness.

"I commend the dedicated service of both Secretary McHugh and General Casey. Under their joint leadership, I have witnessed first-hand in Afghanistan the improved readiness of the Army National Guard. As Oklahoma's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team prepares for its Afghanistan deployment, it has everything that it needs to defeat our enemies, support our allies, and care for its soldiers and families."
