Lawmakers Unveil Legislation Which Removes Automatic Funding for Health Care Legislation

Press Conference

Georgia Republican Congressman Jack Kingston and Texas Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert held a press conference to introduce new legislation designed to remove up to the $105.5 billion in automatic funding that they insist was buried in President Obama's health care legislation. The lawmakers were to be joined by Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., but she apparently got hung in the Libya hearing and was a no show.

The lawmakers say the legislation returns to Congress its authority to review this funding annually as defined by the Constitution. It also rescinds all unobligated balances that have been appropriated in FY2010 and FY2011.

Kingston told reporters he was very bothered by, "any process that goes around regular appropriations order. Every year veterans, soldiers, teachers, first responders, have to come to Congress and ask for their appropriation for their programs. The Obama health care bill advance funded about 105 billion dollars in appropriations funding."

Gohmert added, "We wanted to do what the American people wanted us and that is to strip out the funding for 'Obamacare.'"
