House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement today as Congress plans to return next week, and House Republicans continue to fight for a responsible proposal to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year while cutting spending to help grow the economy.
"Democrats and the White House must stop neglecting their responsibilities. With two weeks left before the current short-term continuing resolution expires, time is running out for Senate Majority Leader Reid and President Obama to show the American people that they do not want to shutdown the government," said Chairman Price. "Since failing to take any action last year on a budget, Democrats have continued to recklessly abandoned their responsibility even as House Republicans have time and again offered solutions to begin cleaning up the mess created by years of mismanagement in Washington. One would think a looming debt crisis and annual deficits well-over a trillion dollars would be reason enough for the Senate Democrat leadership and President Obama to get serious about solving our nation's fiscal problems. There is no excuse for their stubborn refusal to support or offer solutions that will begin to alleviate the barriers to job creation and economic growth.
"Our colleagues on the other side of the aisle have used the threat of a government shutdown to delay necessary action as they fight for a status quo that is bankrupting our nation. The stale political games they have played thus far are unacceptable -- particularly when Congress will need to tackle the far larger challenges of entitlement reform and a long-term budget plan in the coming months. So long as Washington Democrats stand in the way of solutions while offering none of their own, they stand in the way of a stronger economy, job growth today and a more prosperous future tomorrow. They stand in the way of America!"
