Huizenga Statement on One-Year Anniversary of Health Care

Statement

Date: March 23, 2011

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, issued the following statement on the first-year anniversary of the passage of the health care law, a government takeover of health care with a price tag over $1 trillion, burdensome job-killing mandates, and costly regulations that would do nothing in the long run to improve the affordability, accessibility, or quality of health care. The House earlier this year voted to repeal it and directed the Committees to craft new health care reform. The Senate has yet to take up the House bill.

Huizenga said, "Once the American people had a chance to digest the health care bill and realize what bad medicine it was, they clamored for its repeal, especially in the 2nd District. The House listened to the American people and prioritized this vote, and I proudly supported its repeal with my district and because it also goes hand-in-hand with my top priorities: stop spending, create jobs, protect life. Now, the House is going about common sense health care reform the way it should be done -- allowing the Committees to work and gathering input from the American people to ensure there's not another "We need to pass it to find out what's in it' debacle."

Huizenga supports health care reform that addresses the real problems in the health care system, like access and cost, without forcing seniors and employees out of health care plans they currently have, and preserving employers' ability to continue to invest in their businesses instead of face costly fees and penalties.
