We have to take care of our senior citizens. As Governor, I pledge to maintain funding and services for our senior citizens. I will expand in-home care and assisted living programs which permit our seniors to live in dignity in familiar surroundings while receiving the support services they need. This approach is not only the right thing to do, but also more cost effective than institutional care.
Additionally, we must keep the promises we have made to our retirees concerning pension and retirement benefits. In the 2011 session, I worked hard to provide bonus payments to our most needy retired public employees. Further, in 2011 under my leadership the Senate reduced the food tax which will immediately and directly benefit seniors on fixed incomes.
