Broun: Liberals in Congress Refuse to Deal with Fiscal Crisis

Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement concerning his vote for the stop-gap spending bill to continue funding the federal government for three more weeks:

"America is facing an economic catastrophe unlike anything this nation has ever seen -- yet President Barack Obama and the Democrat Leadership continue to ignore the reality of how their irresponsible and outrageous spending is wrecking our economy and destroying jobs.

"The liberals in Congress refuse to deal with our fiscal crisis which clearly indicates that their ultimate goal is a government shutdown for purely political purposes. Liberals in Congress have to get their heads out of the dirt and recognize the gravity of this situation. Enough is enough.

"By passing this Continuing Resolution, we are giving the President and Senator Reid three more weeks to finally get their act together, listen to the American people, and make the serious cuts that are so desperately needed in the face of this economic emergency.

"Make no mistake -- this is the final short term spending bill this Congress should pass. Otherwise, Senator Reid and President Obama bear the responsibility for the chaos of a government shutdown. This is my line in the sand, and I implore House Republicans to stand with me."
