U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown today announced that $312,500 has been awarded to the Community Action Committee of Pike County by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (RMAP). RMAP provides financial assistance to local organizations that re-loan money from USDA to small business owners and entrepreneurs in rural communities.

"Small businesses play an important role in the local economies of Ohio's rural communities," Brown said. "This funding gives the Community Action Committee of Pike County additional resources to continue providing valuable assistance to create and sustain jobs in southern Ohio."

In addition to providing loans, the Community Action Committee of Pike County offers personalized training and counseling to individuals interested in starting or purchasing a small business in Pike, Jackson, Ross and Scioto Counties.

The funding award includes a $250,000 loan and a $62,500 grant.
