US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) met yesterday with the Ambassador of Libya to the United States, Ali Aujali. Aujali is representing pro-democracy Libyan protestors, as well as the new uprising authority being created in the liberated areas of Libya.

Following their meeting, Rep. Myrick sent a letter to President Obama asking him to create a temporary no-fly zone over Libya to protect innocent civilians from Gaddafi's air attacks. She is also asking that the Administration openly work with the pro-democracy authority that is emerging in Benghazi.

Dear Mr. President:

I urge you to protect innocent civilians lives by working with our allies to create a temporary no-fly zone over Libya.

As you know, Muammar Gaddafi has stated that he will use military force, including mercenaries, to kill protesters who want to see him removed. In fact, he continues to order air strikes against civilians in eastern Libya. We must not stand by and allow innocent people , fighting against oppression and human rights abuses, to be killed. We must work with our allies to establish a no-fly zone over Libya and to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in need.

Libyan leaders in the liberated ares are now creating an uprising authority based in Benghazi. I have been told by Ali Aujali, the Ambassador of Libya tot he U.S. who is backing the Libyan protesters, that this new authority will work to ensure Libya returns to a peaceful state where its people are free and able to choose their future through democracy. Therefore, I urge you to encourage you Administration to engage in talks with this new authority, and receive them as representatives of Libyan civil society.
