Statement of Gov. Napolitano regarding
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station

PHOENIX - Gov. Janet Napolitano issued the following statement regarding security at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station:

"I understand the importance and seriousness of ensuring the security of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, which was why I ordered National Guard troops two days ago to the facility. Guard troops are supplementing the power plant's substantial security system.

"We are not in a position to comment on any specific threats that may have been made against the power plant.

"My decision to send troops was a direct result of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security request relative to nuclear power plants. We are confident everything is being done to ensure the protection and security of the facility."
