Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13) voted today for a short-term continuing resolution (CR) that includes $4 billion in budget cuts and will fund the government through March 18, 2011.
"Now, more than ever, we must do everything possible to reduce spending and grow the economy" said Buchanan, Florida's only member on the powerful House Ways & Means Committee. "While today's resolution is an appropriate stopgap measure to prevent a government shutdown, it is my hope the Senate will act quickly to address the long-term spending reductions already approved by the House."
The short-term CR approved by the House today 335 to 91 will save $4 billion by rescinding earmark funds and terminating eight programs that President Obama marked for elimination in his 2012 budget proposal.
Buchanan previously supported a CR that will slash $100 billion from President Obama's current budget, which ends Sept. 30.
