Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) released this statement following the Interior Department's approval of the first deepwater drilling permit in the Gulf of Mexico since the Obama Administration lifted its moratorium in October:
"I appreciate that the Obama Administration has finally issued the first deepwater drilling permit since their moratorium was lifted four months ago. However, with the current instability in the Middle East causing the price of crude oil to peak at over $100 a barrel last week, much more must be done to restore jobs and stabilize our gasoline prices. We should be exploring all possible avenues of domestic energy production, including nuclear, clean coal, wind, biofuels and American oil exploration. I urge the Administration to focus on approving other deepwater drilling permits while finding additional ways to expand and secure America's energy portfolio."
