West Virginia Speaker of the House Rick Thompson will officially file his papers to run for Governor at the Secretary of States Office in the capital on Tuesday, February 8 at 3:00 p.m. His wife Beth and other family members and supporters will accompany him.
"I understand what people are facing today -- working to make ends meet, taking care of your children and your parents, hoping everyone stays healthy, so you can save enough to one day retire," said Thompson.
"I will be a governor who will put the people's business first. We need a government that helps create jobs, not taxes. That works for families and small businesses, not special interests."
"My grandparents and extended family helped raise me after my father was killed in a coalmine accident; they taught me the value of hard work and to always be honest. The Army taught me the importance of discipline and duty to country. I know how to get things done, and as governor, I'm going make a difference for West Virginia families.
