Chandler New Chair of National Task Force to Cut Government Bureaucracy

Press Release

Date: Feb. 16, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ben Chandler has been named the chair of the Blue Dog Coalition's Task Force on Oversight and Regulatory Review. This task force has the responsibility of researching regulations, identifying potential issues, and attempting to change burdensome national policies, including those affecting a variety of business concerns.

"We have to create more Kentucky jobs," Chandler said, "and if certain regulations are making that more difficult, we need to take a closer look. As chair of this task force, I will be making sure that we protect people while also looking at ways to make new laws and regulations less burdensome on Kentuckians, especially our businesses in the wake of this recession."

Chandler expects to travel throughout the district to hear from a variety of groups, including small businesses, about their concerns with duplicative or burdensome regulations. Chandler will take the feedback he receives from Central Kentucky groups and will discuss these regulations with the other members of the task force. The task force will then determine what, if any, action should be taken.

Congressman Tim Holden (PA-17) will serve as the vice-chair of the task force.

"The federal government doesn't have a reputation for being very efficient," Chandler said. "I hope this task force will help us cut a little fat, and maybe save our nation some money and jobs in the process."
