Luetkemeyer Votes to Cut Out-of-Control Government Spending

Statement

Date: Feb. 19, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) issued the following statement after voting today in favor of a continuing resolution that would cut federal spending by $100 billion below the president's budget over the next seven months:

"After years of out-of-control and unsustainable spending in Washington, I was extremely proud to cast my vote in favor of this CR. Many federal programs have received funding increases over the last several years that far outpaced both inflation and the growth of the American family budget, while many other programs do not deliver on their missions and are fraught with waste, fraud and duplication. Even if we all agree a program is efficient and needed, we can't spend money we don't have, especially when we have to borrow almost 40 cents on the dollar to pay for it. At the end of the day, these spending cuts are just the beginning of our efforts to honor our pledge to hard-working American taxpayers that we will spend their money wisely, not recklessly."
