Himes Reminds Businesses of 2/28 Disaster Loan Deadline

Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) reminded small businesses owners and non-profit managers today that less than three weeks remain to apply for government-subsidized loans to help recover from last year's severe storms. Small businesses and local organizations may eligible if they experienced uninsured loss.

"Especially during these difficult economic times, severe weather damages can push a teetering business over the edge," said Himes. "These loans help ensure our local businesses can access the cash they need to continue operating and employing our neighbors."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency's official disaster declaration for the storms and flooding that took place in Connecticut last spring make many local small businesses and non-profits eligible to apply for U.S. Small Businesses Administration (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loans. The organization must have incurred the loss as a result of the storms and flooding that took place from March 12 through May 17, 2010. The last day to apply for loans is February 28, 2011. These low-interest loans offered by the SBA are intended to provide vital working capital loans to small businesses falling victim to uncontrollable economic losses.
