Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) today issued the following statement after being selected to serve as Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia, and as a member of both the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade and the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs for the 112th Congress:

"I am honored to be named Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia and to serve on these two other important subcommittees for the 112th Congress. I am looking forward to conducting vigorous oversight in my subcommittees to ensure American interests are protected and our tax dollars are spent wisely.

"I also look forward to working on international trade that will create private sector jobs for Arkansas workers and will give our products fair consideration on the world market."

The Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia has jurisdiction over matters including political relations between the United States and countries in the region; regional security pacts, rights for U.S. military bases and facilities access; and oversight of all foreign assistance.

The Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade has jurisdiction over State Department efforts to manage international programs combating terrorism; nonproliferation of nuclear, chemical, biological and other weapons of mass destruction; and international economic and trade policy.

The Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights has jurisdiction over international health issues as well as sanctions and legislation promoting human rights and democracy.
