Capito Appointed to Three Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittees

Statement

Date: Jan. 20, 2011
Issues: Transportation

Today, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica, R.FL., announced that Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R.W.Va., will serve on three subcommittees in the 112th Congress: Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, and Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment. Capito is a senior member of the committee.

"I thank Chairman Mica for appointing me to these subcommittees, as each one has a great deal of relevancy to the Mountain state. One of my personal priorities for the 112th Congress is to pass a long overdue Highway Funding bill. With so many new and current road projects to improve our highway system, West Virginia deserves certainty in its funding streams in order to create and sustain job growth. Serving on the water subcommittee will allow me to have a strong voice in representing the concerns of West Virginians in important debates like permitting requirements. As for rail, West Virginia relies on hundreds of miles of rail and pipeline systems to transport coal, chemicals and other goods. Making sure these systems are safe and reliable is essential to West Virginia and the rest of the country."

Capito is also a Member of the Financial Services Committee and serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.
