Today, Congressman Sires announced that he will serve as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 112th Congress. As a member of the Committee, Congressman Sires will sit on the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee and the Europe and Eurasia Subcommittee. Congressman Sires has been a member of the Committee since 2007.
"I am honored to continue to serve alongside my colleagues on the Foreign Affairs committee," said Congressman Sires. "I look forward to working in the 112th Congress to advance policies both at home and abroad that will build strong partnerships and protect human rights across the globe."
The House Foreign Affairs Committee is responsible for oversight and legislation relating to foreign assistance; national security developments affecting foreign policy; strategic planning and agreements; peace keeping; international sanctions; arms control; and international narcotics programs, among other issue areas. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) will chair the Committee and Representative Howard Berman (D-CA) will serve as the ranking Democrat.
