The Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission received $166,884 to establish an economic development plan. The award from the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce was announced Tuesday by U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind.
"As Northwest Indiana works to recover from our nation's economic collapse, we have a need for smart federal investments that can help preserve and create jobs and revitalize our region's economy," Visclosky said.
The grant is designed to support development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy, which will combine the public and private sectors.
The commission is a voluntary public partnership that supports community and economic development in Benton, Carroll, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski, Starke, Warren and White counties.
