Today, Congressman Stephen Fincher announced Chairman John Mica, of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, has accepted his invitation to hold a listening session in West Tennessee on the upcoming highway reauthorization bill.

Congressman Fincher said, "I am excited Chairman Mica and the Committee are coming to West Tennessee to learn ways to provide state governments more flexibility for highway infrastructure projects, such as the construction of I-69." Fincher continued "I believe our ideas will improve the highway reauthorization bill by allowing the design and construction process to be faster and more efficient."

Chairman Mica said, "As a member of the Committee, I am relying on Congressman Fincher to help lead the way in bringing local ideas to the national level." Mica continued, "I am looking forward to coming to West Tennessee to hear new ideas, learn new options and understand ways to overcome bureaucratic obstacles to building highway infrastructure. We must refocus our current programs and look for new ways to do more with less."

The Committee is conducting a series of listening sessions and hearings outside of Washington, DC to hear from states and local communities before writing new highway transportation policy. The last surface transportation law expired at the end of FY 2009, and programs have been operating under a series of short-term extensions. The West Tennessee listening session will be held on February 25, 2011.
