Pitts on Judge Ruling Obamacare Unconstitutional

Location: Washington, DC

Today in Pensacola District Court, Federal Judge Roger Vinson ruled that Obamacare's individual mandate to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional. Noting the lack of a severability clause, Judge Vinson struck down the entire law.

Rep. Pitts' statement follows:

"Once again a federal court has found that Obamacare is unconstitutional. Judge Vinson presents a strong argument against the Obama Administration's insistence that the federal government can require every American to purchase insurance. He notes that if the individual mandate is allowed to stand, it opens the door to government control of nearly every aspect of American life.

"We need to enact constitutional legislation to reduce costs and increase access to health care. The sooner we act to fully repeal this law, the sooner we can pass better solutions to our problems."
