Shelby Receives Narcotic Officers' Associations' Coalition Member of the Senate Award

Statement

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today accepted the Narcotic Officers' Associations' Coalition (NNOAC) Member of the Senate award. This award is given to a single member of the U.S. Senate each year who has a strong record of support for drug law enforcement programs and issues, most important among them the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program. This year the NNOAC selected Senator Shelby as the recipient, after a strong endorsement from the Alabama Narcotic Officers Association.

"In many of my 67 county visits every year, law enforcement officers throughout Alabama have stressed the importance of providing funds directly to them, allowing local law enforcement to control crime based on their own established priorities," said Shelby. "In the Senate, I have proudly advocated to continue Byrne funding to state and local law enforcement so that they may train and purchase the equipment necessary to effectively carry out their critical responsibilities. The individuals serving on the front lines of our communities each day know best what their departments need to successfully do their jobs. Law enforcement officers at all levels deserve our support as they put their lives on the line for our safety every day. We should never stop equipping our crime fighters with the tools they need to combat crime and keep our communities and nation safe."
