Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement in response to a Florida federal judge's ruling that the Obamacare health care law is unconstitutional:
"I ran for Congress with a pledge that I would fight to repeal Obamacare and I praise Judge Vinson's ruling on this matter. The job crushing Obama-Pelosi health care bill raises premiums for working families and imposes costly burdens on employers through $500 billion in new taxes and increased health care costs for small businesses," Renacci said. "Not only is it bad legislation, but the individual mandate requirement, upon which the bill is founded, violates the Constitution. Now that a federal court has determined this legislation to be unconstitutional, I urge President Obama and his administration to abide by the Court's ruling and stop implementation of this bill. Healthcare decisions should remain in the hands of patients and doctors--this is no place for government bureaucracy to intervene."
Judge Roger Vinson ruled on Monday that the health care bill's requirement that Americans purchase government-sanctioned health insurance is unconstitutional; as is a section of the bill that withholds Medicare funds from states that refuse to participate. Because these components of the bill serve as central pillars of the legislation as a whole, Vinson ruled that the entire law is unconstitutional.
