Issue Position

A strong national defense is a top priority as America continues to face threats at home and abroad. As a border state, Arizona must face this reality on a daily basis. A staggering 40% of detainees in Arizona prisons have entered the United States illegally and therefore defending our borders against criminals and terrorists remains a top priority.

As we continue to combat terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and Iraq, we must make certain that our troops abroad are equipped with the tools that enable them to do their jobs, win the War on Terror, and safely return home to their families. Additionally, we must implement a better strategy in tackling the bloated Department of Defense procurement process by encouraging fiscal restraint when it comes to programs that are no longer meeting departmental needs. By shrinking archaic programs and eradicating obsolete technology, we can provide our troops with the best equipment to achieve their missions successfully and allow the DOD to explore new technologies that will strengthen our military.

In Congress, I will push to ensure that the United States military and intelligence agencies have every available resource to combat domestic and international dangers and protect the freedoms and ideals that our country stands for.
