Congressman Jo Bonner, R-Alabama, commented on President Obama's State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
"President Obama delivered an inspiring speech tonight, but again he failed to demonstrate that he is serious about controlling the growth of government which is stymieing much-needed job creation. His calls for targeted investments represent just rebranded federal spending.
"I heard very little about real deficit reduction, a major concern on the minds of the American people. His plan to freeze spending for five years falls short of what is needed to seriously begin the process of reversing our government debt which threatens our nation's future.
"Today, I joined my fellow House Republicans in voting to direct House committees to roll back federal non-security discretionary spending to 2008 levels. This is in response to the American people's demand that their leaders take serious steps to control our massive debt. I call upon the president to work with us to spur job creation and restore the promise of a bright future for our children and grandchildren."
