U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today reiterated his concerns with the health care law during a Ways and Means full committee hearing. Congressman Boustany had the opportunity to question Austan Goolsbee, Chairman Council of Economic Advisors about the medical device tax, which could limit hiring and increase health costs on patients.

"This $20 billion medical device tax will prompt layoffs, limit medical innovation, and harm patients who depend on tomorrow's life-saving breakthroughs. It needs to be repealed,"Boustany said. "Economists widely agree that these new costs will be passed onto consumers and increase health-insurance premiums."

The hearing is the first in what is to be many on the topic of the health care. The bill that was enacted last year added layers of complexities to American health care policy, imposed billions of dollars in tax increases on the American people, and severely damaged essential doctor-patient relationships.

Congressman Boustany is a retired heart surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the medical profession. A vocal opponent of ObamaCare, he delivered the Republican response to the President's health care address in September 2009.
