Jenkins Reacts to President Obama's State of the Union Address

Statement

Date: Jan. 26, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

After President Obama delivered his State of the Union address to Congress on January 25, 2011, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins made the following statement.

"Tonight we heard another nice speech from President Obama. While his words continue to impress we await the corresponding action.' I spoke those words in response to the President's first State of the Union address, but they ring as true tonight as they did a year ago."

"As was the case last year, when the President voiced support for trade agreements with Colombia, South Korea, and Panama, I concur with much of what the President said tonight. Yet those trade agreements sit unsigned today and his words remain just that, words."

"The President and I agree that we must take immediate steps to reduce the deficit, reduce regulation, and get Americans back to work. Talk is cheap, however. So for the good of the country and the sake of our children and grandchildren I hope the President will put his rhetoric into action. I hope he will work with House Republicans to create responsible and effective solutions. Solutions that will put the power where it belongs, not here in Washington, but with the American people."
