Vitter Outlines Expectations for Tonight's State of the Union Address

Press Release

Date: Jan. 25, 2011
Issues: Oil and Gas

U.S. Sen. David Vitter today made the following statement outlining what he expected the president to address tonight in his State of the Union address.

"I certainly welcome the President talking about making America competitive. If he's serious about that, he'll lift the de facto drilling moratorium in the Gulf, help lower our business tax rate -- the highest in the world -- and stop growing bureaucracy and regulation," said Vitter.

Vitter recently highlighted this very same theme of increasing our nation's competitiveness in an opinion article published by National Review.

In particular, Vitter argued, "…President Obama still has the Gulf of Mexico virtually shut down to oil and gas activity nine months after the Deepwater Horizon disaster. The formal moratorium is lifted, and promises to resume drilling abound, but the reality remains -- a virtual shutdown. And offshore may be the good news. Onshore, federal permitting for domestic energy resources has been reduced by a whopping 79 percent since Obama took office."
