Quigley Statement on House Resolution to Restrict Reproductive Health Care

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement after the passage of H. Res. 9, which instructs House committees to consider legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act, including a directive to prohibit "taxpayer funding" for abortions:

"The language of this resolution is unnecessary, redundant, and an attack on women's health care. An identical provision is already federal law, included in both the Hyde Amendment and the Affordable Care Act, meaning any further action erodes women's rights to comprehensive care. The repeal of health care reform would be a step backward for patients across America, and today's vote is a direct offensive against a woman's right to choose."

Quigley was a fierce advocate for women's reproductive rights during the lead-up to the passage of health care reform this spring. He was one of the only men to speak on the House floor against the Stupak amendment and continues to fight to make sure women are afforded the right to choose.
