Frelinghuysen Backs Repeal of Obamacare… Wants Improved Health Care Reforms

U.S. Rep Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) today voted in favor of H.R. 2, legislation which repeals the so-called Affordable Care Act, also know as "Obamacare." The repeal measure passed the House by a vote of 245 to189.

"This will be the first step to ensuring that the American people will remain in control of their own health care through a system that is patient-centered and provides health care choices, not government-imposed mandates," said Frelinghuysen in a statement delivered on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Frelinghuysen acknowledged that the new law contains some beneficial reforms. "However, the few positive provisions do not outweigh the fact that the new law's most damaging aspect is that it turns over to the federal government the individual's right to make their own healthcare choices for themselves and their families," he said.

Specifically, "the new law has given Washington bureaucrats extraordinary power to control the personal health care decisions of all Americans, such as forcing us to buy health insurance that Washington politicians may deem to be acceptable, potentially fining us for refusing to do so, determining our choice of doctors, hospitals and homecare, and deciding which medicines we can take and which medical procedures will be available to our families."

Frelinghuysen reaffirmed that he does support health reform. "However, I do not support thisnew health care law, which represents, to a very great extent, an expensive Washington takeover of our health system," he said.
