Rep. Ted Deutch released this statement in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:
"Today, we pay tribute to the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose struggle against prejudice and discrimination helped deliver Americans of all racial and ethnic backgrounds a more just and free nation. Dr. King's dream of an America in which all our citizens can work and live in service of our common humanity is as poignant today as it was during the historic struggle for civil rights. As our nation continues to grieve in the wake of the tragedy in Arizona, and as we pray for the recovery of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, may Dr. King's unwavering call for peace inspire us as we strive for more civility and understanding in our public discourse. For in renewing our commitment to nonviolence and the peaceful resolution of our differences, we strengthen the bonds of humanity that unite us as Americans."
