Griffith: State of the Union Should Focus on Job Creation

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement prior to President Obama's State of the Union address this evening:

"Americans want results. Tonight's speech will prove whether or not President Obama is listening to the American people. Unkept promises and excessive government spending is not what they want.

"Jobs continue to be the number one concern in Southwest Virginia. With unemployment above 9 percent for 20 straight months, we cannot afford to continue down the path of big government. The best way to create jobs is to get the government out of the way. I hope President Obama is serious about his recent Executive Order to improve regulation and regulatory review. Government regulation is not the answer.

"President Obama has overseen the largest budget deficits in U.S. history. The national debt has skyrocketed to more than $14 trillion. The government is out of money. Instead of mortgaging the future of the next generation, we need a plan to dramatically cut spending. As President Obama prepares to address Congress and the nation tonight, my hope is that he will propose viable solutions that promote job creation and rein in spending, resulting in economic growth."
