Making a Difference for Oklahoma Farmers
"I often travel to Oklahoma 's farm country to speak directly with farmers and ranchers and listen to their needs. I am committed to advocating on behalf of rural Oklahoma ensuring Oklahoma remains a leader in America 's agriculture production." U.S. Senator James Inhofe
Having lived in a rural state all of his life, Senator Inhofe is a proud supporter of the American farmer and rancher. Senator Inhofe recognizes the invaluable role farmers have in our society and has worked to protect the hard-working, common sense values cultivated in rural America.
Producing food in the United States is vital to our national security and prosperity. In Oklahoma , agriculture production contributes more than $5.6 billion to the state economy each year. Throughout his career in Congress, Senator Inhofe has secured important legislation to ensure Oklahoma remains a national leader in agriculture production.
In 2005, Senator Inhofe was awarded the highest honor given by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau and praised for his leadership on agriculture and the environment: "He has spent much of his time in Washington DC standing up for issues important to rural Oklahoma , especially in the environmental arena. In appreciation for his dedication, Oklahoma Farm Bureau has awarded U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe their distinguished service to agriculture award," Sam Knipp, Vice President of Corporate Communications/Public Relations, Oklahoma Farm Bureau.
Senator Inhofe has always worked for the farmers affected by severe weather. The American Farmers and Ranchers praised Sen. Inhofe for stepping up when Northwestern Oklahoma was hit by severe drought, "We are very proud of the legislation that Senator James Inhofe introduced addressing the Critical Feed Use (CFU) restrictions for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands," said Ray L. Wulf, President and CEO of American Farmers & Ranchers. "Senator Inhofe has always been a friend of agriculture and this is just another example of his support."
Senator Inhofe works closely with the communities of rural Oklahoma to enact policies that protect the family farm and keeps the American food supply safe, reliable, and affordable.
Senator Inhofe's Agriculture Policy:
-Protects private property rights of landowners and encourages conservation
