Renewable Energy

"The effects of global climate change are undeniable and the U.S. must act immediately." -Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Senator

The best way to stem the tide of global climate change is to end America's dependence on carbon-based energy and invest in clean, homegrown energy sources. Those investments will not only address global climate change, but spur economic growth, create green collar jobs and move America forward on a path to energy independence.

Senator Gillibrand is a leading advocate for investments in renewable energy production and energy efficient technology. She believes strongly that by investing in renewable sources of energy right here at home, we can create American jobs, protect the environment, and make the U.S. safer for generations to come.

Senator Gillibrand has worked closely with federal, state, and local leaders as well as the private sector to encourage green development across the state. As a member of the Green Jobs & the New Economy Subcommittee she will continue to advocate the policies that will help New York be a leader in the green revolution.

Representing New York's Strong Environmental Tradition

Senator Gillibrand follows in the footsteps of great New York Senators Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Hillary Rodham Clinton by serving on the important Senate Environment & Public Works Committee - giving New York a seat at the table on critical issues from protecting clean air and water to reversing the effects of climate change.

From generating electricity in Niagara Falls over a century ago to upstate farmers who are growing non-food-based feedstocks for biofuel development today, New York State has a long, rich history of environmental conservation and development of alternative sources of energy.

Senator Gillibrand will continue to promote that rich heritage, developing new energy systems and technology that will create jobs in our state and address the many environmental concerns, from reversing global warming to remediation of old industrial sites.

Addressing Global Warming

Global climate change is a critical issue that becomes more complicated to address with every passing year.

Senator Gillibrand supports aggressive action aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050, in an effort to reverse the effects of global climate change. It is critical that we take immediate action to address climate change while ensuring that the concerns of our most vulnerable communities are central to the development of this vital legislation. Senator Gillibrand believes we can stem the effects of climate change and drive private sector investment in clean and efficient energy sources.

The Senate Environment & Public Works is the central Committee in the development of global warming legislation, and Senator Gillibrand will work with her colleagues to champion legislation that will encourage the development of clean, alternative energy sources, grow the new energy economy, and reverse the effects of climate change.
