Press Release

Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) today issued the following statement as thousands of Americans converged on Washington, D.C. to take part in the March for Life. January 22nd marked the 38th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. Congressman Cantor will address March for Life participants early this afternoon:

"Today, thousands of Americans will join together in the March for Life to highlight our shared belief in the principle that the right to life is universal and not reserved only for the planned. I applaud all those who will march today on our national Mall, even in these cold temperatures, to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

"For the past two years, the life community has suffered the consequences of being completely out of power. Against the will of our people, Democrats have jammed through an agenda that forces taxpayers to fund abortion and embryonic stem cell research, and even attempted to repeal conscience protections for health care providers.

"But now the tide has turned and Republicans have won the Majority in the House. Our Majority has been re-energized by a strong crop of pro-life leaders. We have pledged to institute a permanent, government-wide prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion, a bill at the top of our agenda in the House.

"We know that we have an uphill battle in the Senate and the White House. But I can promise you one thing: the People's House will stand for life, and we will do everything in our power to make sure our values are reflected in the law of the land."
