From National City:

I urge you to extend unemployment insurance benefits for America's jobless.

Failure to act now could result in an estimated 1.2 million workers left with no income - each month.

You must not let this happen.

A new report by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) shows unemployment insurance benefits have boosted the entire U.S. economy, while at the same time, saved millions of jobs. The study shows that for every dollar spent on unemployment insurance, economic activity increases by $2. And during each quarter of the recent recession, the unemployment income that unemployed workers spent on basic necessities kept an average of 1.6 million other Americans on the job.

The federal unemployment program is the sole source of income for millions of idled Americans - left jobless through no fault of their own. They are not lazy! They are not drug addicts! They are Americans! Americans who want to work.

And until there is an end in sight to this jobless recovery, until our nation's leaders put-forth real measures to create jobs, they need your help. I urge you to extend unemployment insurance benefits for the jobless today!

Congressman Filner replies:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for extending the federal emergency unemployment insurance program.

I wholeheartedly agree! I hope you will be pleased to know that the program has been extended through 2011.

I appreciate your advocacy on this important issue.
