Statement By Robert Hurt On The Latest Unemployment Report

Date: Jan. 7, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) released the following statement after the Department of Labor issued the December Unemployment report showing that the national unemployment rate dropped to 9.4 percent:

"While today's jobs report showed signs of improvement, there is still much work to be done to bring down our nation's unacceptably high unemployment rate and create jobs for the people of the 5th District.

"It is critical that we continue to pursue policies that promote an environment of economic certainty so that employers will regain the confidence necessary to hire, create, and expand.

"In addition to keeping taxes low and cutting government spending, voting to repeal the government takeover of health care next week is another step towards reducing the unnecessary regulations, mandates, and taxes that have been forced on the backs of small businesses and killed jobs.

"Nothing is more important than ensuring that our economy continues to grow, and I am committed to supporting policies that will help create the sustainable private sector jobs that Central and Southside Virginians need and deserve."
