"Today, Congresswoman Laura Richardson (D-CA) issued the following statement regarding the ceremonial vote to repeal the "Affordable Care Act" in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Despite the objections by a majority in the Senate and the commitment of President Obama to veto the bill, the new Republican majority put politricks over politics in their vote today.
In my district, where 87,000 individuals previous to the Affordable Care Act, did not have health insurance; local hospitals were being uncompensated by $125 million dollars annually for providing care to 101,000 individuals, including 10,000 children All were denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. The flawed attempt today of passing in only one body the "Patients' Rights Repeal Act H.R. 2" was simply a demonstration of campaigning and not governing.
At a time when 12.4% of Californian's are unemployed and the economy is slowly approaching growth, I look forward to supporting legislation that will strengthen and improve affordable healthcare."
